A women’s monastery which was initially, since 1913, a honoured chapel of Saint Dimitrios, piously maintained by a family of shepherds. At the initiative of the Metropolitan of Eleftheroupoli Ambrose in 1973, a fundamentally new temple was built with the contribution of residents and Georgios Lazaridis. In the years that followed a large narthex was added to the church and the three-story building complex of the monastery with hospitality areas, cells, bank, laboratories and other ancillary spaces was built. West of the building in 1994, the new church dedicated to the Virgin Gorgoepiko was inaugurated. It is a convent and belongs to the metropolis of Eleftheroupoli. The monastery celebrates on 26 October. The monastery is located in an idyllic ravine in Nikisiani, Pangaio. At the point above the monastery complex, is the holy water spring of Agia Varvara (St Barbara), a fountain from which cool water gushes from Pangaio!
Axia (άξια) incense is hand made in Greece by the nuns of the monastery of saint Dimitrios of Nikisiani, Greece.
